Investigation Leads to Drug Trafficking/Weapons Charges


The Estevan Police Service (EPS) Drug and Intelligence Unit conducted an investigation into individuals believed to be trafficking cocaine and other street level drugs within the City of Estevan.

On February, 20, 2020, as a result of this investigation, members of the EPS Drug and Intelligence Unit, Criminal Investigation Unit, and Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the east central area of Estevan.  During the traffic stop, two males were arrested and taken into custody without incident.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of cocaine and items used for the sale and distribution of illicit drugs.  The vehicle was subsequently seized as offence related property.

A short time after the traffic stop, EPS members executed a search warrant at a residence associated to the driver of the vehicle during which time a quantity of Canadian currency and two firearms were seized.

The 34-year-old passenger of the vehicle and a 20-year-old female who were also arrested during the investigation were subsequently released without charge.

As a result of the investigation, 21-year-old Chase Jordan VELESTUK has been charged with the following offences:

  1. Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  2. Trafficking in cocaine
  3. Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public x 2
  4. Breach of firearms prohibition x 2

Mr. VELESTUK was remanded in custody until February 24, 2020 and has been subsequently set to make a second appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on February 27, 2020 to speak to the matter.
