Multiple charges laid as a result of traffic stop

On March 26, 2019 at approximately 9:30 pm a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop in the City of Estevan. The female driver was found to be under the influence of a drug. A field sobriety test was conducted, which resulted with her failing the road side test. The female was subsequently arrested and transported to the Estevan Police Service for further testing. An Estevan Police Service Drug Recognition Expert conducted a further examination. As a result, the female refused to cooperate with completing the examination.

A search of the vehicle resulted with the seizure of approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, three cell phones, just over $100.00 cash, a digital scale, and other items used for the sale and distribution of methamphetamine. A firearm was also seized from within the vehicle. The female passenger was subsequently arrested. During the investigation it was determined one of the females was recently placed on a Probation Order and she was also prohibited from possessing a firearm. As a result of the investigation the vehicle was seized as offence related property.

Kirby Kiraly (31) of Estevan has been charged with the following offences:

1) Trafficking methamphetamine contrary to S. 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
2) Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine contrary to S. 5(2) of the
Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
3) Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to S. 354(1)(a) of the
Criminal Code of Canada.
4) Fail to comply with a demand contrary to S. 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code of
Canada.
5) Possession of a firearm while prohibited to do so contrary to S. 117.01 of the Criminal Code
of Canada.
6) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to S. 92(1) of the
Criminal Code of Canada.
7) Fail to comply with a Probation Order contrary to S. 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Kaitlyn Howells (25) of Estevan has been charged with the following offences:

1) Trafficking methamphetamine contrary to S. 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
2) Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine contrary to S. 5(2) of the
Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
3) Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to S. 354(1)(a) of the
Criminal Code of Canada.
4) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to S. 91(1) of the
Criminal Code of Canada.

Both subjects will be appearing in court this morning. Further details will be released following this appearance.
